Metamophosis

Metamorphosis is a biological process by which an animal physically changing from immature until mature trough definite phase. Some insects, amphibians, molluscs, crustaceans, cnidarians, echinoderms and tunicates undergo metamorphosis, which is usually accompanied by a change of habitat or behavior.

Insect metamorphosis
All insects in the Pterygota undergo a metamorphosis. There is 2 kind of insect metamorphosis, hemimetabolous (incomplete metamorphosis) or holometabolous (complete metamorphosis).
  • Hemimetabolous (incomplete metamorphosis)
The stages of this metamorphosis is EGG --> NYMPH --> ADULT

Nymph is the immature stage. Development proceeds in repeated stages of growth and ecdysis (moulting); these stages are called instars and continued until adult stage
Example: grasshopper, cockroach, dragonfly, etc

  •  Holometabolous   (complete metamorphosis)
The stages of this metamorphosis is  EGG --> LARVAE --> PUPA --> ADULT

Immature stages are called larvae, and differ markedly from the adults. Insects which undergo holometabolous pass through a larval stage, then enter an inactive state called pupa, or chrysalis, and finally emerge as adults.
Example: butterfly, mosquito, flies, etc

Amphibian metamorphosis
In typical amphibian development, eggs are laid in water and larvae are adapted to an aquatic lifestyle. Metamorphosis in amphibians is regulated by thyroxin hormone concentration in the blood. The stage iEGG --> TADPOLE --> YOUNG FROG --> ADULT
